Rev. J. Randolph (Randy) Bare has been called to serve as Transitional Senior Pastor at Mt. View Presbyterian. Hope Presbytery has received Randy as a member upon transfer from the Presbytery of the Northwest. Randy was born in San Francisco and has 5 siblings. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley and joined InterVarsity staff in 1980. He married Carolyn Grable (Carrie) in May 1980, and they have two sons and two grandchildren. Randy began full-time ministry serving at UC Santa Cruz as a campus minister and as InterVarsity’s Area Director for the South SF Bay Area and then Los Angeles County from 1982-1988. He was co-founder and first National Director of Inter-Varsity’s Graduate Student Ministry and served in that role from 1988-1996. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary (with a Master of Divinity degree, 1990) and was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church PC(USA) in 1990. For 12 years, from 1996 to 2009 Randy served as Presbyterian Campus Pastor at U.C. Berkeley and then was called in 2009 to be Senior Pastor of Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach Florida. Randy returned to InterVarsity staff in 2018 and has been serving as Senior Estate & Gift Planning Officer since then. He took a two-year leave of absence to serve as Transitional Senior Pastor at Grace Commons Presbyterian Church, ECO in Boulder CO from July 2021 until July 2023.

Randy has been a leader within ECO, serving on the MPT of the Presbytery of the East and later as MPT Chair and then Moderator of the Presbytery of Florida. He also served as Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of Northwest and as a member of the Presbytery of Northwest’s MPT. From 1998 to 2008 Randy served on the Board of John Stott Ministry (now Langham Trust). He was founding Board Chair for the Consortium of Christian Study Centers. Randy currently serves on the Board of United Servants Abroad, a ministry that connects North American believers with the church in Latin America and the Bahamas. Randy and Carrie currently live near downtown Spokane, Washington and are relocating to Scottsdale for the transition season at Mt View.

Carrie retired after 50 years on InterVarsity staff on June 30. She is looking forward to continuing her part-time practice of spiritual direction in retirement.
