In recommending a person for consideration for either Elder or Deacon, you are giving suggestions to the Nominating Team. On behalf of the congregation, the team prayerfully discerns who will serve as our next Elders and Deacons. After prayerful discernment, the team will bring a slate of nominees to the congregation at the congregational meeting in February 2026 for a vote.

This is the normal annual cycle of nominations for Elders and Deacons. Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) nominations will be handled separately at the appropriate time in our transition season. If you have any questions, please email nominating@mtviewpres.org.

From the ECO Constitution:
The Ministry of Elders
“Elders are given authority and responsibility, along with pastors, to oversee the spiritual health of the congregation as well as the congregation’s faithfulness to God’s mission. Elders shall be elected by the congregation.” (Section 2.02)

The Ministry of Deacons
“Ordinarily, the biblical office of deacon shall be utilized by the congregation. Deacons lead ministries that nurture fellowship and caregiving within and beyond the congregation. Deacons may also be asked to preach and teach. The congregation shall determine the manner in which they are selected for service. The session shall oversee and direct the ministry of the deacons.” (Section 2.03)

From the MVPC Bylaws:

“The Board of Elders of the Corporation should ordinarily consist of twelve Elders with a minimum of nine and a maximum of fifteen.” (Section 2.2)

“If a Board of Deacons is utilized, it should ordinarily consist of approximately eighteen Deacons elected by the Congregation.” (Section 3.2.a.ii)
