Care Ministry at MVPC
Care Team
Pastoral crises come to every church. At Mountain View we have a care team that can provide a deeper level of support for people requiring extended and intensive care.
Working in cooperation with all the pastors and Stephen Ministry, we are often first responders to pastoral care needs and then determine the best level of support for the long term. Our team is made up of Stephen Ministers, Stephen Ministry Leaders, Deacons and a few retired nurses. The team is led by Susan Bergstrom, our Faith Community Nurse and Pastor Kirk Sexton. The Care Team serves in pastoral situations where the needs require something beyond the typical level of care.
Stephen Ministry
We are truly blessed by a Christian-based Stephen Minister program that has been active locally for a quarter of a century and recognized as one the most effective, caring ministry of its kind in the country. Each and every Stephen Minister has received at least 50 hours of in-class training, plus an additional 40 hours of pre-class study of materials provided by the corporate offices in St. Louis. The Stephens Leaders have participated in an additional 50 hours of advanced instruction conducted by a Corporate Staff Specialist at one of many out of state locations.
To assure a proactive and competent team of Stephen Ministers, ours meet monthly to fine-tune the skills of caring for someone dealing with personal crisis and how to walk the difficult journey with those suffering from burdens too great to overcome alone. Fortunately, a recently trained class of qualified caregivers is available to anyone interested in having a Stephen Minister walk beside you, while respecting your confidentiality.
If you, or someone that you know, are addressing the challenges associated with illness, divorce, loss of a loved one, unemployment, etc., why not consider contacting one of our Pastors* or Stephens Leaders* to see if you might benefit from a service that has already proven to be useful to hundreds of Mountain View parishioners like yourself.
GriefShare
GriefShare is a care group at Mountain View designed to help people who are mourning the death of a family member or friend. Often, others want to help you cope with your loss but simply don’t know how. GriefShare is a group of people dealing with loss that meets weekly to share experiences and tackle tough challenges together.
We will meet starting in January for our next GriefShare session.
If you have questions, need more information, contact Pastor Kirk Sexton at kirks@mtviewpres.org.
Caregivers Support Group
Are you a caregiver who feels overwhelmed, anxious, or isolated? Just know that you are not alone! We have a Caregivers Support Group, which meets monthly on the second Thursday. We are currently reading and discussing the book “Loving Someone Who Has Dementia” by Pauline Boss. If you are interested in attending or for more information, please email Pastor Lyn at lync@mtviewpres.org.

We offer pre-made food boxes or individual items, customized based on personal needs. Our goal is to provide nourishment and support with dignity and care.
