In Chapter 25 Jeremiah puts his message into historical context: From the thirteenth year of Josiah until now—a period of twenty-three years—he has persistently spoken to the people and for all these years they have turned a deaf ear.

Jeremiah was not the only messenger that God sent. Apparently, as judgment neared and the leaders—both spiritual and political—hardened their hearts, the voices of truth became fewer and came farther between, while the voices of deception and false assurance became more dominant.
