Week One: I Am the Bread of Life
Read: John 6:22–40 (focus v.35)
“Whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”
1. Opening Prayer
Ask God to reveal the places where you are spiritually hungry.
2. Context & Teaching Notes
This follows the feeding of the 5,000.
The crowd wants more bread; Jesus offers Himself instead.
“I AM” echoes Exodus 3:14 — divine identity language.
Bread = daily dependence (manna in the wilderness).
Jesus offers not just provision, but Himself.
3. Discussion Questions
What kinds of “bread” do people chase today for satisfaction?
What’s the difference between being curious about Jesus and coming to Him?
Where are you tempted to look for life apart from Christ?
What does it mean practically to “feed” on Jesus?
4. Formation Practice: Examen
Can be guided at the end of our podcast and done in huddles or families. We will model this in the podcast week one. You can find this resource on the web page under Practices. Sharing the Examen is like giving one another the bread of life.
We hope you find this simple practice a way to contemplate the true Living Bread, who you are and how you and others are guided to how God desires to give you more life to share with others.
5. Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are our true bread. Teach us to hunger for You more than anything else.
